Here is lowdown on how I got my PCC in no time. I have kept this blog short & to the point so that you save your time…… from the time you start reading it.
I never knew what PCC is until my would be overseas employer asked me to provide it and this information was passed on to me at the last moment.
So I started the process. First thing first. Went to Google and typed “how to get PCC india” etc and came across to dozens of posts on internet – filled with anger and frustration particularly towards people involved in this process.
Forewarned is forearmed. Equipped with this. I filled my online application form http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink. You have to hit button exactly at appointment opening time. If its at 4 pm – hit your “book your appointment” button at 4 otherwise you have already lost your first battle- you will have to attempt next day.
Note: In my case the address on my passport and my current address in my application is different.
Day 1
10.30 AM : Went to PSK . This was my reporting time
10.33 AM : Was already in the queue. carried ipod.Started watching “Dumb & Dumber”
10.40 AM : GS4 guard shouted at me to move ahead. I was already laughing at Jim Carry”s Airport scene.Hence ignored this guard(remember forewarned?) this is the only place he can prove his existence. I smiled at him and said “Sorry Sir”. He greened at me – ear to ear.
10.45 AM: Got inside. in one big front hall of CSK. (Air-conditioned. Oops. Who is that great person in our government?) found myself in one more queue. Watching D&D. Jim carry on the road trip.
11.10 AM: Facing desk officer. He is scrutinising. I kept big smile on my face and slave like posture. This pleased him. He asked me to wait at some place behind … pointed his finger behind the queue. I resisted urge to say “yes my Honor”.
11: 30 AM: Went inside through one more security gate and one more waiting hall. Air-conditioned. Clean. Comfortable chairs. like airport lounge. Snack bar in the corner. phew!! I am in my beloved India. Who is doing this all for my India?
12:05 PM: Jim carry is dreaming.. he his holding his dream girl. I hear faint shout.. somebody is calling me and next I find myself directed to a counter where I am photographed, I am then directed to counter B waiting area. Phew. great SOP in place.
12.30 PM: Counter B has electronic display. My token number is blinking with desk number… I am directed electronically.
12.31 PM: Another officer going through my application. He wants to know why the address on passport and in this application is different. I say “transfer” , shy and green on my face I say “dont you get transfer from one department to another” He also smiles and says “yes yes we do” .. see how simple all this? He directs me to counter C.
1.30 PM: waiting & Watching ski scene of D&D at waiting area of counter C.but Its lunch time and the desks are getting empty.
1.35 PM: I head outside for some grub. smoke.
2.10 PM: I am back at counter C. but go through a big shock of my life. Security guard tells me that I have committed “grave sin” with contempt in his voice he is telling me that I was absent when he gave a shout at 2 PM and I am late …my appointment is now terminated and I should reapply and go through the same process some other day.
2.15 PM: Forewarned and forearmed. I look at him like 5 year old boy. Politely begged for his clemency. again resisted my urge to call him “my honor” but using Sir in prefix and please in suffix in every line.
2.20 PM: I am winning his heart slowly … solution seems to be in sight. He directs me to one counter where I need to plead my case.
2.25 PM: I am at token reinstating pleading counter. again pleading like 5 year old boy. slavish posture. folded hands.
2.30 PM: I am granted clemency. reprimanded ” I should never ever commit such a ghastly act” . I say “I will never and I am ready to give you sworn affidavit to this effect.” Not required is the reply and new token gets issued.”Yes your honor” I said it …and hurried back to C counter.
2.30 PM: Lesson learned ” never ever go out for smoke during a lunch time at the passport office”
3:30 PM: Counter C officer completes the process and I am out of PSK.
9:00 PM: Glass of wine.google. Browsing internet “process after lodging pcc application at PSK” dozens of post tell me that the application goes to special branch for the verification.
Next day:
10:00 AM: I am at the special branch. Believe it or not. Police officers at the special branch are so cooperative, so helpful and so friendly that you fell in love with them on the spot. The officer directed me to commissioner’s office and asked me put some sort of presentation before the commissioner. All I need now is to prove my urgency.
2.30 PM: I am at the commissioner’s office. I am showing him my job offer, communication from HR, my CV.. everything that can prove my urgency. The commissioner says he will do everything in his capacity.
Next Day:
2 PM: I get a call from special branch police officer. He wants to come for the verification at my home. wow.
4PM: Verification process is over.
After 2 days
2 PM: Back at commissioner’s office. Process is over. There is no adverse report. I get my clearance.
3 PM: Passport office. PCC is stamped and letter issued to this effect.
Moral of the story:
- Getting PCC is not a rocket science
- Some good man sitting on the top has done great job in redesigning passport seva- including kendra
- Ignore small timid people you come across passport office
- Special police dont behave like typical police. expect very respectful interactions. believe it or not.
- You dont need connections, influence or any jugad to get your work done with police.they will listen to you and will help you in every process
- Police officer (special branch) who comes for verification will not demand anything and will do your work swiftly. believe me or not. If you want to give him something then do it out of sheer joy of giving.
- Do not get in altercation with people at the passport office. carry some book or gadget with you and divert to you attention from those silly games they play PSK.
